Rivain might suit Riftwatch better, in many ways. But Derrica recognizes an unwinnable battle when she sees it.
Still, wouldn't it be nice to live somewhere other than the skeleton of a Circle know for it's cruelty?
The question is understood. Derrica's response is slow in coming. Not for any uncertainty in her answer, but to give her attention to the tracery of fingertips at the slip of skin at the collar of his tunic. Stirring the links of his necklace in the process, the beat of his pulse underneath her fingertips.
"I couldn't," she tells him. "I spent so long hiding after leaving Rivain that I missed the rebellion. If I ran away again, even to go back...I wouldn't be able to bear it."
That trailing pause. Is Rivain still home? She has been gone eight years. Everything that would be familiar is likely still a ruin, even if she can't imagine going anywhere else once all is settled and peace is achieved.
"And everyone I care about is in Kirkwall," is another detail. An important one, really. Even the sailors she is familiar with circle through the port from time to time. So much of her life has sprung up around the Gallows without her realizing.
